Deadly car accident on North Main in Baytown

Police believe speed and possibly alcohol may be the causes of a deadly car accident on North Main Street near Archer in Baytown yesterday. Police say that around 5:00 a.m. a 22-year old male was driving at excessive speed on North Main in a black-colored Honda Civic when he drove the car off the road and into a ditch, launching the car airborne and into a power pole before the Civic came to rest on its roof. Investigators say the driver was killed in the accident. Two women aged 21 and 22 were passengers in the car: they were in serious condition and were taken by life flight helicopter to hospital. Channel 2’s story did not include the names of the people involved, and mentions that police think alcohol may have been involved.

Pickup trucks crash at Pasadena intersection hospitalizing two

A crash in Pasadena at the intersection of Space Center Boulevard and Fairmont Parkway around midnight last night sent two people to the hospital. A maroon-colored Ford F-series pickup truck and a black Ford F-series pickup truck were involved. According to the Pasadena Police Department, the maroon Ford ran the red light and caused the accident: one person in the black truck was taken to hospital via life flight helicopter, the other by ground ambulance. Police said the driver of the Ford would be tested for possible drunk driving. A witness who helped the injured right after the crash disagreed with the Pasadena Police Department’s conclusion on who was at fault, and said the black truck ran the red light. Car lands on woman sleeping inside her Airline Drive home

Police suspect drunk driving may be the reason why a car left the southbound lanes of Airline Drive, bounced off a phone pole and pickup truck before plowing into a mobile home, landing atop a woman sleeping in her bed. Harris County Sheriff’s Office say the red car was traveling at a high rate of speed before it crashed in the 9200 block of Airline Drive around midnight. Amazingly the woman was transported to hospital in relatively good condition, save for some burns from the hot car. The driver of the car made an attempt to flee the accident scene on foot but witnesses held him down until police arrived. Read Channel 11’s report here. Channel 13’s report is here.

Rollover accident – Greens Road crash injures 10

Ten people were sent to hospital and one person was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated after a Saturday night car accident. Police say a green-colored Ford F-150 pickup truck ran a red light at the intersection of Greens Road and Lee Road around 10:30 p.m. An approaching car t-boned the truck causing it to flip over. Police say there were four adults and five children in the truck: the kids’ ages ranged from 2 months to 11-years old. The car driver was injured also. The driver of the truck was arrested on suspicion of DWI. Channel 2’s report is here. Channel 11’s report is here.
This accident is an illustration of why you can never carry enough automobile insurance coverage. Assuming the F-150 driver has a state liability minimum limits policy, there would be a maximum of $60,000 of coverage for bodily injury to ALL of the people hurt in this crash: the passengers in the pickup and the driver of the car.

Driver killed in crash on Highway 288 at MacGregor

A driver was killed in a car accident at Highway 288 and MacGregor last night, though media accounts of how and why the accident differ. Channel 11’s report states that the driver of a dark blue compact sedan was”recklessly racing up an embankment” at the time of the crash, along with another driver in a white-colored car. One driver lost control and struck a support column of the freeway underpass: that driver then struck the other vehicle. Both drivers were taken to Ben Taub hospital where one died. Channel 13’s story on the other hand states the accident happened when the driver of the blue car was about to exit when he changed his mind at the last second, but lost control and struck a wall, causing the car to catch fire.
