Girl at birthday party hit by suspected drunk driver who fled

A man was arrested after seriously injuring a young girl with his vehicle and fleeing the scene, according to Channel 11 News. Witness Cindy Flores told reporters the man lost control of his black-colored Nissan Altima, then struck the girl who was enjoying a birthday party in a driveway of a home in the 2100 block of Floral Street in Houston. The girl was thrown up onto the hood of the vehicle, and the driver took off. The girl’s father jumped in his truck and chased the Nissan, leading police to the driver who was stopped about a half-mile away. The girl was responsive when taken to the hospital, and suffered a broken leg and a gash on her head. The girl’s age is stated as 4-years old but also 6-years old in the Channel 11 story.

Drunk driving suspected in fatal accident at 610 and Ella Blvd

One person was killed in an unusual series of collisions on the North 610 Loop at Ella Boulevard early Sunday morning. Two vehicles collided around 3:30 a.m. and Houston Fire Department was dispatched to respond. One of the drivers got out of his vehicle and was hit by a third vehicle heading eastbound on 610: he was pinned between two vehicles and killed. A passenger from this man’s vehicle then tried to run across the freeway to get help, and he was hit by a fourth vehicle causing a leg injury. Channel 11’s report is here.

Channel 2’s story provides a bit more detail, and a slightly different version of events. According to Channel 2, the eastbound vehicle rear-ended a black-colored Chevy Impala, which caused the Impala to spin out across the freeway and hit a Toyota. The vehicle that struck the Impala then fled the scene. The driver of the Toyota then exited his vehicle, complaining of a head injury, and lay down on the roadway. An additional vehicle, a Honda Accord, then came upon the scene and struck the man, killing him. Investigators say the Honda driver was driving drunk. Another vehicle was following the Honda, and when that driver saw his friend had been in a wreck, this man ran across the freeway trying to help and was hit by a car.

Fiat driver hits two Montrose pedestrians suspected of being drunk

Two pedestrians, a man and a woman, were transported to hospital Saturday night after they were struck by a vehicle while crossing a street in the Montrose area. The incident happened around 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of Tuam Street and Helena Street. Witnesses say the driver of a silver Fiat car wasn’t necessarily speeding but was driving faster than would be expected for the conditions, when he struck the couple then kept going around the corner, despite significant damage to his car. A witness followed the Fiat, and the Fiat returned to the scene of the accident where additional witnesses prevented the driver from leaving. Law enforcement believes the driver was intoxicated. Channel 2’s report is here.

Michoacan restaurant hit and run sends woman to hospital

According to police investigators a 51-year old woman was transported to the emergency room with a possible broken leg after a hit-and-run accident in front of the Michoacan Restaurant in the 2300 block of Wirt Road in northwest Houston.  The woman and her mother were standing on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant when a white SUV struck the woman and also crashed into the front of the building.  Per Channel 2’s news article, witnesses saw a Hispanic female climb into the driver’s seat while it was occupied by a Hispanic male, at which point it appears one of them hit the accelerator causing the SUV to shoot forward.  The SUV took off without stopping to provide information or render aid.  Hopefully there is surveillance footage available from the nearby businesses, though it will probably require someone coming forward to identify the hit-and-run driver or the SUV.

A female pedestrian was killed after she was hit by a pickup truck early this morning as she walked on the improved shoulder of FM 1097 East in Willis, Texas. According to the Montgomery County Police Reporter, when EMS arrived on the scene the woman was deceased in the American Legion parking lot, having been thrown just over 100 feet in the collision.  The white-colored Chevrolet 2500 utility truck that struck the woman was driven by 30-year old Jeffery Atkinson from Willis. The police reporter article states Atkinson said he did not see the woman prior to striking her.  A field sobriety test and breath-alcohol test both indicated that alcohol was not a factor in the accident.  The name of the woman who died in the accident has not yet been released, pending notification of her family members.  The pickup truck showed a significant amount of damage to the passenger side front.
